This morning was like an instant playback of yesterday's sighting of both eagles, and almost at the same spot along the eastern segment of the unpaved Miramar Parkway extension. Sunrise this morning was at 6:46. The adult appeared first at 6:41 followed by juvenile 1 minute later, overhead flying SSE from nest area towards Sunset Lakes Lighthouse Island. Not really sure which adult was present as I almost missed the sighting.

This morning at 7:43 AM, about an hour after sunrise, an adult Bald Eagle was circling the Harbour Lakes mitigation area lake about 0.2 miles out. It splashed down a couple of times but did not catch any fish. Then it roosted in a pine about 0.4 miles away on the opposite shore. This roost is about 1.2 miles SE of the Pines eagle nest. The large body size and head shape strongly suggest that this is the female, Jewel. She did not catch any fish while I watched and stayed in the roost for at least 20 minutes, when I departed. Because of the distance, the photos are not very sharp.

so glad you are home so we can get pics now. I checked a couple times myself since my last post, including earlier today but haven't seen any of them. Keep us updated...thanks for the pics!
tag:bald-eagles-of-broward-county-florida.17.s1.nabble.com,2006:post-7574550JULY 17: Adult and juvenile sighted 1 mile east of nest2016-07-17T10:24:44Z2016-07-17T13:36:50ZNewMexiKen
Back home in Florida, I visited the nest during the day a couple of times this past week but failed to see either the eaglet or any adult eagles. Earlier this week (on JULY 13) while walking at the south end of the unpaved portion of Miramar Parkway/SW 196th Ave I saw an adult eagle flying from the nest area towards the large lake in Sunset Lakes. This was at 6:48 AM, about 10 minutes after sunrise.
<br/><br/><img src="http://bald-eagles-of-broward-county-florida.17.s1.nabble.com/file/n7574550/27673003953_49171f7860_c.jpg" border="0"/><br/><br/>Again this morning (JULY 17) at the same location, just after sunrise (6:43 AM), an adult Bald Eagle flew overhead, following the same flight path towards the large lake in Sunset Lakes.

A mockingbird was harassing the young bird. A large bird, this is quite certainly "Spirit," who is about 4 months (approximately 123 days) old today.

Also at the nest tree around 12:30. Glad to hear she can fly at least as far as the melalucas.

The eaglet was sighted on the malealuca trees West of the nest; this is the area where the adults roost at times.

That's very good news! It appears she doesn't really want to leave the nest quite yet!

no problem, happy to do my part. I love seeing the family doing well, just wish I had a camera. I visited the nest today, Friday about 2:35 and saw only the eaglet. She was sitting comfortably in the nest. No adults were there.

Thanks, johnnye, for keeping us all posted. It is so heartening to see that Jewel has succeeded despite all the adversity. Sorry I have not been able to visit the nest but plan to return in a couple of weeks. By then the youngster will probably be out hunting on her own, maybe far to the north. This week I had the chance to see some eagles in Minnesota, most of which were rehabilitated but not releasable, at the National Eagle Center.

Great day today. The eaglet was on a branch off the large branch coming off the nest tree to the east. Jewel was in the pinetree next to the sidewalk aong Pines Blvd. where they often perch and Pride was at the melalucas. Note-Pride looks thin. I hope he is well. I hope Ken get home soon so he can get some good pics of them.

Stopped at the nest at 12:30. Adult and eaglet were perched on separate small branches coming off the larger one on they have been using this season towards Pines Blvd. at the nest. The adult was just above the eaglet. Minor pruning but not much else until the eaglet started calling. She kept calling and calling and then starting moving around the nest with short "floats". Not sure what to call it. She seemed anxious, perhaps hungry. Finally she fluttered up and on top of the adult's back so the adult flew away and she perched where the adult had been. The adult flew to the pine tree next to the sidewalk next to Pines Blvd.where they often perch. After just a couple minutes the adult flew back the the pine next to the nest tree. The eaglet kept calling and complaining until finally she, the eagle, fluttered/flew over to the adult's tree. She did not seem steady when she landed and had her wings half out on the branch as if she was using them to steady and support herself. She was calling as if she was screaming for help. If was unsettling for me as I am not an expert and am not real familiar with behavior when eaglets are learning to fly. The adult hoped down to a branch so his talons were even with the eaglets head as if for comfort and support. The eaglet finally got steady on the branch and kept calling. The adult eventually flew away to the south and I wonder if not to find food. The eaglet seemed to slide/walk/hop to the inter part of the tree where it was less windy. It is pretty windy today which also caused concern as I don't know how long the eaglet has been trying to fly or maybe already has. From what I saw today, I wouldn't think she knew how to fly but I have been by the nest on other day and didn't see her. Maybe she just wasn't visible on those days. I left just after 1:00.

Stopped briefly at the nest to check on the eaglet about 2:20pm. The eaglet was perched where the adults used to perch just above the nest on the branch facing the road. An adult was in the pine tree near the sidewalk on Pines Blvd where they usually rest. All looks good. Hopefully the eaglet is flying and learning from the parents now.

At the nest today, 6/13, 1:00pm to 1:09pm. The eaglet was perched on a a medium sized branch just above the nest. She looks hugh...no other eagles in sight. To hot to stay there very long.

There have been no posts since I went into travel status last weekend. Please check on the welfare of the eaglet and report its whereabouts. It should have fledged by now. Thanks!

I arrived at the nest at about 9:00 AM this morning and the eaglet was standing in front of the tree trunk. It stood so still that at first I thought I was seeing some kind of a shadow. After about 15 minutes she moved to the left rim of the nest an once again was perfectly still. When Pride arrived with some prey item she continued to be immobile for about 5 minutes while Pride tore at the prey. Then she suddenly came to life and started calling and begging.
<br/><br/><img src="http://bald-eagles-of-broward-county-florida.17.s1.nabble.com/file/n7574523/27017258850_110c801c3a_b.jpg" border="0"/><br/><br/>Pride fed her for about another 15 minutes:
<br/><br/><img src="http://bald-eagles-of-broward-county-florida.17.s1.nabble.com/file/n7574523/27017259580_491f6abffb_b.jpg" border="0"/><br/><br/><img src="http://bald-eagles-of-broward-county-florida.17.s1.nabble.com/file/n7574523/27222570761_e578ed864e_b.jpg" border="0"/><br/><br/><img src="http://bald-eagles-of-broward-county-florida.17.s1.nabble.com/file/n7574523/27292251795_3ab03eb0ee_b.jpg" border="0"/><br/><br/><img src="http://bald-eagles-of-broward-county-florida.17.s1.nabble.com/file/n7574523/27017259970_e92dce4c75_b.jpg" border="0"/><br/><br/>Pride then moved to the branch to the right and once again the eaglet simply sat quietly. No flapping or helicoptering, but this has already been observed and we need to keep an eye on the nest to determin when the eaglet takes its first flight. It may disappear for a few days but we should try to check on its welfare as this is a dangerous time in its life cycle.
<br/><br/>I should mention that I have seen both adults flying from the nest area towards Sunset Lakes just after sunrise, yesterday and the day before.

I was at the nest today at noon for about 20 minutes. The eaglet was just standing in the nest. She wasn't flapping her wings while I was there, she was just standing and looking around. One of the adults was in the tree to the right of the eaglet, just above it, perched on a branch - the adult didn't move at all the entire time I was there. It's hard to see the adult because he/she is behind the branch - just look closely! (I took many photos, but they all look exactly like this one because the eaglet didn't move much.)
<br/><br/>As for the person who reported that they were marking the sidewalk for construction; there definitely wasn't anything being done today, and the sidewalks looked intact. I looked up the sidewalk all the way from 208th to 209th on the side the nest is on [south side of the street], and there was no disturbance at all. Also, I looked on the north side of the street, and, didn't see anything there either. I hope if they are doing something, they just wait a couple weeks till this baby girl flies!
