DEC 24: Eagle carrying grass over Chapel Trail

Today, Smith Juan obtained photos of an adult Bald Eagle carrying nest lining materials over Chapel Trail Nature Preserve, which is about 1 1/2 miles to the NNE of the Pembroke Pines nest.

It has not been unusual for us to see the eagles carry grass to the nest before and after the eggs are laid and after there are eaglets in the nest. They seem to do this to cover up prey remains as well as insulate the nest-- something like sweeping the dirt under the carpet!

On the assumption that this bird is from the PP nest, its large size looks like the female, Jewel. I also saw her carry nest material to the nest a few days ago.

Photos are used with Smith's permission.
