NOV 24: Both adults on nest

I visited the nest at about 8:50 AM this morning.

At first it appeared that the female (Jewel) was alone on the nest:



However, both adults ( left to right, Jewel and Pride) were there,apparently rearranging sticks. We think that the first egg will be deposited within the next day or two. So far Jewel has spent time deep in the nest as if "broody." This behavior usually indicates preparation for egg-laying. When that happens, we usually expect the female to continuously remain low in the nest until finished, perhaps out of sight, given the large amount of nesting material which has been added this season.



The pair had a friendly interaction:



Jewel flew up to the support branch as Pride continued to work on the nest.  



Later, at about 10:30 AM, Phil found Pride looking out of the nest while Jewel was down low. Her bill may be seen through the rim of the nest, just above his watermark. This is another indicator that she is "broody":

Nice shots guys, the nest and the birds are looking good, check out my newest post for the Deerfield nest today. I am expecting them to lay eggs also in the next few days.
