Ken, I just got off the phone with a gentleman who lives in the pembroke pines area who drives by with his wife to check on the eagles, and he has informed me  that on monday an opsrey was spotted in the nest along with both the juvenile eagles.

He said that both the juveniles where "crying out loud and then they left the nest and so did the osprey."

Just thought you might want to know or perhaps you already know?

Ken Schneider replied:

Hi, Smith,

No, I had not heard about it. Too bad he did not document it with a photograph. I don't know how common this may be, but since this nest is so far from water and in a wooded area it seems so unlike all the Osprey nests and roosts I have seen. It is remarkable that the two young birds and the Osprey were said to be all in the nest together. However, in nature, anything is possible. Sharing this with Lynda White. Maybe she has heard of this sort of behavior.

We have seen Ospreys chasing adult eagles, carrying fish, back to the nest area. We presumed that the eagle had stolen the fish from the Osprey and it was trying to get it back, or maybe just harassing the eagle in retaliation.

Thanks!

That is too funny! The osprey obviously saw one of the eagles with a fish and decided to try and snag a free meal. Usually it's the osprey that loses the fish, but perhaps they don't feel as threatened by juveniles. The best part of my job is that I learn something new every day.
