Sat. morning, 8-9 am

One adult was in usual spot on dead M. trees. Both babies were active on the nest and at times both standing up tall towards the rim. They seemed to have a fish carcass that they were picking up. They definitely had the appearance of looking for food from Mom or Dad!

Ken, if you see this, one thing I noticed. It must have been a bad night for possums as there were 2 dead on the highway there. One was towards 27 but the other was just east of the nest. Would there be any  concern if the buzzards (who surely will arrive) begin to circle and ultimately land within the 330 ft nest diameter?

It could be dangerous for the vultures, as they often get hit by cars
themselves. They also can attract the eagles, who sometimes compete with
them for carrion. So the answer is, yes.

I know that in the past there have been road kill in the area, more up toward my house, but definitely within range of the eagles, and they did not seem interested in it, even though it remained for several weeks (the vultures didn't show interest either)  I didn't notice the carcasses when I was there this afternoon, so maybe they've been picked up... but I'll look more closely next time I go by.  I know that I've read that it is common for eagles to get hit by cars when they have been attracted by a roadside carcass.

I was reading in the packet that came from Eagle Watch, that when the eaglets fledge, they often utilize road kill to sustain them until they have honed their hunting skills.  It seems that it would be wise to make sure that road kill is quickly removed about that time.
