South Florida Bald Eagle Watch Is Moving to a New Platform

Roy David Walker
Administrator

Dear Bald Eagle Watch Community,

For many years, this Nabble forum has served as an important gathering place for people who care about South Florida's Bald Eagles. Through the dedication of countless observers, photographers, volunteers, and conservationists, this community has documented nesting activity, breeding seasons, eaglet development, and the remarkable lives of our local Bald Eagles.

These observations represent years of valuable community science and an important part of South Florida's conservation history.

Unfortunately, Nabble is no longer actively supported, and there is a serious risk that this forum and its historical records could disappear without advance notice.

To help protect this information and ensure that our Eagle Watch community can continue contributing meaningful observations, the South Florida Audubon Society (SFAS) is transitioning South Florida Eagle Watch to CitSci.org, an established citizen science platform designed to support collaborative research, wildlife monitoring, and long-term data collection.

Our New South Florida Eagle Watch Platform

We encourage everyone who has participated in this forum, along with new observers, to visit our CitSci project and continue documenting Bald Eagle activity throughout South Florida.

The platform will help us organize observations, support conservation research, and build upon the remarkable work of this community.

What Happens to Our Historical Nabble Records?

We are working to preserve the historical information shared on this forum.

Our goal is to retain the original observations, nesting histories, photographs, discussions, and contributions that have made South Florida Bald Eagle Watch such an important resource.

This includes the extensive records associated with the Pembroke Pines Bald Eagle nest (BO-002), along with other documented nests throughout Broward County and South Florida.

The historical archive is being organized through the South Florida Audubon Society website:

Preservation and verification of the historical records are ongoing. Not every original photograph, discussion, or observation has necessarily been recovered, and we are working to safeguard as much as possible.

A Special Thank You

We want to recognize the extraordinary contributions of Dr. Kenneth Schneider, whose dedication to observing, photographing, and documenting South Florida's Bald Eagles helped establish a remarkable foundation for this community.

We also sincerely appreciate every observer, photographer, volunteer, and contributor who has shared information over the years.

Your observations have helped tell the story of Bald Eagle recovery, nesting success, and conservation in an increasingly urban South Florida landscape.

Your contributions matter, and we want to make sure they are not lost.

How You Can Help

Join our new CitSci project and continue submitting Bald Eagle observations.

Save any original photographs, observation notes, or historical records you contributed to Nabble.

Contact South Florida Audubon Society if you have historical materials that may help us recover missing information.

Share the new project link with other eagle watchers, birders, photographers, and conservation volunteers.

When observing Bald Eagles, please maintain a respectful distance, avoid disturbing active nests, and refrain from publicly sharing sensitive nest-location information.

This Is Not the End of South Florida Eagle Watch

It is the beginning of a new chapter.

While the technology we use may change, our mission remains the same: to observe, document, understand, and protect South Florida's Bald Eagles for future generations.

Thank you for being part of this extraordinary community and helping us preserve its history.
