Al was already there when I arrived at 9am. He hadn't seen any eagles. At 9:15 we were rewarded with a showing from Hope??, who flew in from the east to a perch on a pine branch just west of the nest tree. Trisha arrived shortly after. I then walked down to the dead trees to look for the sibling. Yes, Justice?? was there kind of far back, but very visible. At about 9:50 both chicks started calling, and a parent flew in with what must have been a meager food drop. We think a small fish, or part of one. The chicks went directly to the nest tree; however one remained in a branch above the nest, never dropping down to eat. I say a meager offering, as both chicks continued to call for something more substantial. The parent had flown to the same branch the chick had been on prior to the feeding, cleaning the beak and just looking beautiful. Some time after, a kid left the nest tree, flew up, and ousted the parent from the perch. It was a really cool site to behold. Wings everywhere! The parent took off and landed way on top of a pine to the east. Trisha got some great footage of this encounter. The parent then flew off to the east. At some point, both chicks were on the same western pine branch, when an adult came in from the west. It flew right over Trisha and Fernando's heads, made a drop and flew to the near eastern perch. You can really tell when an adult is in the vicinity by the voices of the kids. They announce the parent coming, so we can actually can be ready to be looking for the incoming. It's really interesting to see this family interaction now. And those kids do seem to be together most always. If not together, very near. They don't seem to be in any big hurry to head out on their own. Meals served at home seem to suit them just fine. It will be interesting to see when they do start doing their own hunting...
