Stephanie5056 asked: Good Afternoon. Does someone do nature walks in that area?

First Saturday Wetlands walk at Chapel Trail Nature Preserve

Wetland walks followed by optional meet-up at Pembroke Pines Bald Eagle nest on the First Saturday of each month November through March

Meeting place: 8:30 AM at Parking lot of the Chapel Trail Nature Preserve at 19800 Sheridan Street, Pembroke Pines, FL 33026

Entrance is just west of the corner of Sheridan Street & NW 196th Avenue, on the south side of Sheridan (first left turn after crossing SW 196th Ave if arriving westbound on Sheridan St), 4 miles west of I-75. Public rest rooms are available.

This is an easy walk on a handicap-accessible boardwalk in the wetlands area. Beginning birders are especially welcome. Children must be accompanied by a responsible adult. Bring binoculars and bird book if you have them.

The City of Pembroke Pines oversees this 450-acre passive park that was established in the 1990s. The wetlands have become home to 120 species of birds, deer, marsh rabbits, alligators, snakes, turtles, largemouth bass, and insects. This nature preserve includes a 1,650-foot long boardwalk and a pavilion for observation.

There is no fee and reservations are not necessary. For more information, contact walk leader:  Dr Ken Schneider, mailto:eagles@southfloridaaudubon.org
