Hi Steve,

I use a 500mm as well with a 1.4 Teleconverter and a D500 camera with a crop sensor which brings it to 700mm and the pictures look okay, you can see from what I post. The distance is around 500' at the shore of the marina at the park to the nest, I recommend to bring binoculars too so you can find them, because sometimes they are not at the nest.
