Another exchange of incubation duties DEC 20

We arrived at the Pembroke Pines eagle nest site a little after 9:00 AM this morning. One adult, which turned out to be the female, was incubating deep in the nest. Almost immediately I spotted an adult flying high overhead, northbound from behind the melaleuca cemetery to the west of the nest.

He crossed over Pines Boulevard, made a wide half circle towards the east, then began descending quite rapidly.

He approached the nest from the west along the south side of Pines. As soon as he landed the female started vocalizing.

She remained low in the nest for a while, then stood up, called some more and launched into flight, landing on the roadside pine just east of the nest, still calling. The male immediately settled down on the egg(s).

Skies were mostly brightly overcast with lots of glare, and lighting conditions were very poor, but I was able to get a few shots from near the corner of SW 208th with the sun quartering from behind.

Then she flew off to the west and disappeared to the south.
