A little before 9:00 AM we stopped by the nest to check on the welfare of the two eaglets. Yesterday, we had a severe windstorm that spawned two tornadoes.
An adult flew to the nest just as we we arrived. It apparently dropped food and immediately flew up to roost in the Australian Pine just east of the nest.
Both eaglets were present. The larger chick was eating the prey and also flapped its wings for a minute or so, while the smaller one looked on. The adult, which we thought to be the female, then flew off to the southwest directly over our position, gained altitude and disappeared to the southeast.
