DEC 11: Eagle flyover and Pileated Woodpecker

Mary Lou and I watched the nest for about a half hour from 8:45 AM until rain resumed. Immediately saw adult fly in from the east and cross in front of nest. It resumed its straight path to the west along Pines Boulevard until out of sight. The nest appeared to be empty.

A female Pileated Woodpecker was foraging in the dead Melaleucas to the west of the nest.

Its tongue is visible here. It is so long that it wraps around to the back of its skull.
