DEC 21 Observation re: Pride's right leg

I received two notes from Phil Martin, of interest. He is following up on a report of an injured "eagle" in Pembroke PInes, which I received from Florida FWC and referred to Phil for assistance. The "eagle" turned out to be a Cooper's Hawk, which Phil brought to the hospital at Flamingo Gardens, where Phil volunteers and assists in bird rehabilitation.

Please keep an eye on Pride's talons as well. Photos will be welcomed to help us all to follow up on Phil's observations. As he says it may be nothing more than the habits we have seen earlier.

DEC 22:

Hi Ken,

I was reviewing some photos I took of Pride on 12/21/14 @ 08:00.  He appears to be having a problem with his right talon, as he cannot/would not put weight on it. I did not see any visible injury or abnormality. It could be he is more comfortable perching on just the left. But it is something to keep an eye on.

The Cooper's Hawk I rescued is doing great and we hope to release her in a couple days.

DEC 23:

Ken,

The news about the coop is even better. The last 2 days she has been eating an entire quail and she looks great!  We will be releasing her tomorrow.

As we said today, I think Pride was just being comfortable. He had the talon hanging and pulled up inside his feathers. I'm positive it was him. Joy had a small white feather in the center of her breast. I didn't get to go back out to the next today but will be there in the morning.

Hi Ken,

Just a quick note to wish you and your family a very happy holiday.

This morning, after a big breakfast of quail, I released the Coop. She flew great, briefly perched and looked as to say thank you and flew off. This was a great way to start the holiday
