We've had a couple of unusually rainy days. It poured early this morning, but we got our to check the eagle nest at about 9:00 AM. We watched for an hour. The adult female was drying her feathers on a Melaleuca trunk west of the nest. The nest appeared empty. We assume there had been a feeding and the eaglet(s) were sleeping. After about 20 minutes the adult flew away to the SE, maybe to hunt or look for her mate. In any event the nest was not guarded for at least 45 minutes, when we finally had to depart.
The weight of rain on the branches and lack of wind permitted a good view of the nest, but we never caught sight of an eaglet.
The female was drying her feathers.
