Monday, January 30 -- male standing watch and Merlin nearby

This morning at about 10:00 AM the male was roosting in the Australian Pine to the east of the nest tree, while the female was sitting quietly on the nest. Our guess was that feeding had already occurred. No eaglet was visible.

This is a view of the roosting eagle looking to the east with the sun behind him.

Here is the view from the east with the sun at our back.

The Merlin was again roosting just west of the nest tree. This is the fourth time we have seen the Merlin there in about the past month.

I crossed to the south side of the street and stood on the grass about halfway between the bird and the corner of 208th Street.
