My watch Sunday 930 to 1210

Kathy
Arrived earlier Sunday to take up my post.  When I arrived I saw Justice, the younger chick standing on the favored perch of the larger chick.  Other watchers told me that the chick had not been fed by either adult since they arrived at 730 am.  At 1045am one of the adults flew in from the east, and circled behind the nest and back around to eventually land and give the chick a small white bird.  The adult flew to the stand of dead trees and landed on the favorite tree to perch for a few minutes then flew north overtop of the houses across the street.

Justice spent the next little while trying his wings and sitting on the favored perch watching the world go by.  At 1135 another adult flew up with more food, I am sure by now Justice thinks he is the luckiest bird, either that or he is wondering where he is going to put all this food.  The adult who brought the food then flew to the pine tree just east of the nest and was there when I left at 1210.  At sometime between 1130 and 1200 the other parent came to the nest with yet more food.  I did not see exactly what time as I was standing at the dead tree stand trying to hear or see the chick that fell.  I thought that I did hear the chick when the adults were calling to the chick in the nest and it did sound like it was to the right of where one of the parents like to perch and back a ways.

Both parents were still there when I left.  I get the feeling that it won't be long before Justin tries his wings, he just has that look about him that he wants to fly.  I sure hope he fares better than his sibling.  I wonder if FWC would go and chick again? only a broader search, or if some of us could get permission along with a bird specialist.  Just a thought.

As I watched the Adult in the dead tree stand I saw him/her looking down several times, but did not hear any sound.  Then the bird spent much of the time looking into the distance in a southerly direction.  Then was preening when I left at 1210.

Thanks for your picture and post Kat...even though I was there part of your time, I wasn't aware of  so much going on and the right times that everything happened. It sure was a busy and a HAPPY day! Hope to see you again next weekend.

If the birds are there, I will come saturday in the am, probably early like 730 to 10am.  Keep me posted as far as the babies being in the nest.  Sure hope the Hope makes it back to the nest.

It was great to meet you and all the other people there!!!

Excellent and detailed observations. I believe the adult must have been
aware of Hope's location to the south, and you and Trisha's report that
Hope was vocalizing on the west side of the "Eagle Forest" narrowed the
search into the correct area.
