Power outage leads to repairs close to nest

Kelly Smith
Last night as I was returning home, I noticed an FPL "cherry picker" positioned at the lines close to the nest.  I stopped by to see what was going on. It turns out that there was some disruption to power that occurred at the pole just to the east of the apron area on the south side of Pines Blvd.  The truck had been there about an hour, according to the FPL representative who was overseeing the operation, and was just about done.  No one knew what had caused the disruption - there was a report of a large flash.  There were no tell-tale signs of electrocution, such as feathers, near the affected lines, so we were pretty sure that an eagle was not involved.  The babies seemed totally unaffected and were snoozing low in the nest.
