No sign of the male this morning. We are now alert for any changes in behavior that may signal egg laying. The pair seemed to have stopped bringing in nest materials about a week ago, and have been seen mating. If the female suddenly begins sitting low in the nest, and one or the other adult is always seen on the nest, this will be a sure sign that the eggs have been deposited.
Storks have been flying over the eagles' nest, but not making any deliveries! So far there has been no indication that the eagles have laid their eggs:
The female was roosting in the dead melaleucas from about 8 AM until 9:45, when she flew to the nest:
She remained on the nest, sitting quietly and sometimes peering down-- had she laid an egg?
Maybe not! After 45 minutes (according to Al, who stayed on to watch her) she perched up on the rim of the nest and appeared to be eating something. Then she flew to the east and roosted. Probably a false alarm!
Here is a photo of the two bottom lines that run along the poles in front of the nest. They appear to be communication lines, possibly cable or telephone, either of which might provide a broadband connection for the planned nest camera:
Funny Ken...only in SOFL have the real stork fly over the nest! Seems like activity and their staying near the nest is really picking up....exciting times!
