Tuesday 3/23/10

Carolyn
I got to the nest about 11:45 and 2 chicks were sort of up and about, the other laying down low. I thought they might have just been fed, or were looking to be. After about 10 mins, the other 2 laid down, too. They all slept til around 12:40, then started getting antsy again. At about 12:50 one adult flew in with a fish, the other right behind it with something small. One did a drop and flew to the bare branch above the nest on the west side of the nest tree. It stayed there a bit, then flew to the favored pine to the east. Meanwhile the feeding parent was doing a good job being sure all mouths were fed. That adult then flew off somewhere with the chicks still sitting up and preening some. I left shortly thereafter. All looked good!

Interesting report, Carolyn-- I just got back from Illinois. At 2 PM this afternoon I heard and then saw an adult Bald Eagle flying over our lake in Miramar, about 2 miles SE of the nest. The bird was continuously calling and flying directly NW towards the nest site. I could not see if it was carrying prey, and it was gone before I could unpack my binos and camera.

It was welcoming you home Ken!  Great report Carolyn!  I was by later in the day and everyone was resting. Several times I heard an adult call from south of the nest and thought they would be bringing food, but they didn't while I was watching. It was a quick visit for me so I'm glad you saw such activity!
