I just arrive to the nest and I hear a call I step off the car and saw two Eagles at the nest. they stay about 20 minutes and they left the nest I left 5:20 and no Eagles seen

That sure looks like two adults to me!!!

Agree that both eagles appear to have pure white heads, Mike.

However the time of day and lighting conditions may be at play here. When I first saw it I thought Joy had returned.

Both beaks look pure yellow. Head shape of the one on the right in the lower photo resembles that of the new female "Newfee" and there is a tuft of white on its breast which is sometimes present.

I would have thought that Newfee's dark spot on the top of her head should show in one of these shots, as the eye streak and also the small dark area on her bill have not always been visible.

I'd not rush to judgement but this is very interesting and I hope we get lots more photos under different light conditions.

Isn't this wonderful, that we have so many candidates for Pride's new mate.  In 2007, there were only two eagles in Broward County.  Now we have two nests and at least 2 or 3 contenders, plus other Juveniles.

Wonderful Captures Jose ! I believe these are 2 adults , and by comparing with my previous captures this just might be Joy . She might have finally returned ! Excited with just the thought !!!

I half to Agree with Liza , I looked at your pictures from Yesterday and was amazed that the Female does indeed look like joy . I also seen the talon looks to have had a injury based in the picture it is right above her nail and it looks to have healed up and maybe that is why Joy was gone and now she is back we need to compare older pictures of joy and this lady . If they mated yesterday based on what you seen they I highly believe this is joy . Also Eagles can mated later in the season it happens all the time . I have made many calls to people that know about Eagles who have worked with them for over 15 to 20 years we can still have little Eaglets this year lets see what happened after Liza seen the Pair mating yesterday . I strongly believe this is Joy at the nest .  This Female seems to know a lot about the area and Pride and that would take a new female a while to learn .

Liza obtained more photos and they show that the female has dark tips on her tail and also some dark feathers in the under-tail coverts, consistent with an early 5th year bird (just turned 4 years old), so it still must be the new female. Her head is turning near pure white except for a small dark spot on top and her bill is now all yellow. She is also very large-- I think larger than Joy was. Today (JAN 26) Liza said she was sitting deep in the nest, a good sign! I'm heading there now.

Ken this is not this Bird we seen in December this is another Eagle for sure . There is no way an Eagle can grow that fast and no way the feathers have changed that much this is a Different Eagle for sure . and I feel she is going to lay Eggs soon if she has not already done so

Lisa, the smaller eagle we saw that had heavier markings was probably a male, maybe a year younger. The variety in the depth of markings on this bird's head can probably be accounted by variations in light and acuity of focus. Newfee was very large when first seen, while the second one that Phil called Glory was the smaller male. Jose and I photographed the same bird and noted subtle differences in our photos. This bird shows signs of molt, so it is actively replacing the immature (4th year) plumage. Note the variation in length of tail and covert feathers as new adult white feathers are growing in. Some of the dark feathers are still visible on her head but are obscured as they are gradually being replaced by adult white feathers. In sum, the female did not grow rapidly, as she was the same size when we first saw her 2 months ago.

This is the bird that was at the nest on January 11th. I believe it was the "interloper" male, not Newfie as was my first impression. More white on body, heavier head streaks, dark bill markings. Granted, it was taken under very poor lighting conditions that may have made the streaks more evident, and I also now think that the shape may look more like a male as the rear body is tapered and the bird seems more "compact," but this is subject to interpretation:



Let's try to get good photos of head and tail to be sure we sort this out.
