May 2: Bald Eagles on cell tower in Pembroke Pines

The Mayor of Pembroke Pines (Frank Ortis) received a report of a possible eagle nest on a cell tower along Johnson Street just east of North Palm Avenue, and referred it to us for investigation. The observer sent photos of the pair on the tower.  I could not see any nest materials on the tower, but the pair may be scouting it out. She writes:

"I sent two short videos where you can hear the bird calling (along with my daughter’s imitation) and I took a screenshot from the video to show a still picture. These are the best that I have. I also haven’t seen the birds at all since yesterday afternoon 😕 If I see any sign of them again, I will be sure to let you know."

They are two full adults and may well be a mated pair. Anyone who passes by the area (on the south side of Johnson Street across from the Dog Park, on the west side of the power line easement) might stop for a moment to see if the eagles are present.

(I was not able to embed the two videos, as Nabble supports only those with web addresses).

Here is a map showing the location of the cell tower:

Hi Ken,

Last night, approximately 4:15, my daughter stopped by the cell tower location for the “New Pair”.  She did not see Bald Eagle activity. I attached 2 cell phone photos she took.

This morning at 8:50, I stopped by and did not see any activity, nor did I see evidence of them building a nest. I attached several photos I took. The light was against me but you can still see.

Phil

Thanks, Phil (and your daughter!)

I have seen the pair on Pines Blvd and north of Palm Ave. On light pole across the street from Police Station. Seen the in three different times on 4/17 and 4/18.
