Monday JAN 13 1:00-2:00 PM food drop

Al was at the nest site when I arrived at 12:45 PM. The male was on the nest and actively tending to the contents, presumably one or even two eaglets. A reporter and photographer from the Sun-Sentinel joined us around 1:00 PM.

At 1:21 PM the female flew in and we thought she was going to switch duties but our photo later showed the she brought in prey, a white bird (photo I posted earler today).  The two adults called to each other as both stood on the nest rim. In this photo you can see the prey item under the talons of Joy's left foot.

She then flew to the favored perch in the Australian Pine just to the east of the nest and began cleaning her bill. Al remarked that this was probably a sign that she must have brought in prey, and it turned out that he was right! The male resumed tending to the nest.

For a while she dangled her left foot as we have seen her do before.

The female then flew to roost on the nest tree, high on the horizontal perch.

Thank you Ken and all of you who have been sharing observations and pictures of the eagles this season.  So exciting to be able to stay informed about what's going on!!  It is doubtful I will be able to make it there anytime soon.  Will explain in other area of the Forum.

Nice to hear from you, Jill, and hope you can make it down here while the eaglet(s) is/are in the nest.
